a war room….

I just saw the new Christian film by the Kendrick Brothers. The acting is not academy award winning worthy, but the message is a powerful thought-provoking one, as all of their movies have been for me. This one is simply about the need for directed prayer. The title, The War Room, refers to a place that military officers have as their command center behind the lines to form strategies and direct battles in times of conflict. We need one for our prayer life as well. Obviously you can pray anywhere, but a place free of distractions that is designated for that specific purpose allows you to be completely focused. It is a place to be intentional (there’s that word again) about our conversations with our Father in Heaven and authentic in receiving and extending forgiveness. According to Miss Clara: We need to have the right plan and resources because victories don’t come by accident. And along side that, we need a wall of remembrance to be ever thankful for those answered prayers. Yes and amen!

Prayer is the most powerful weapon at our disposal. It allows us to center our trust in Christ. Its protective blanket covers all aspects of our life in ways that are both visible and tangible, but also invisible, by their mere absence of being. For example, how can you measure the bad things that don’t happen to you? Philosophically, an answered prayer could also be in the NOT answering it.  Prayer is a Tree Star in its most basic form….finding wonder and awe in being in a relationship with our Creator.

Some interesting measurable effects of a consistent prayer life include:

  • It is found that time spent in quiet reflection and listening builds inner strength that will get you through life’s toughest times
  • Praying influences your state of mind, helping you relax and thereby reducing the effects stress has on various body organs.
  • Praying can actually boost the level of dopamine or the ‘happy hormone’ in your brain making you happier and more peaceful. You will have a more positive outlook on life, because you will be better able to see things through the eyes of faith.
  • Did you know that only 8% of Christian married couples pray together? Out of those, only 1 out of 10,000 report divorce. That stands in stark contrast to the 1 out of 2 for the rest of the couples. Prayer is a way to almost divorce proof your marriage.

There is a real battle out there. The enemy is always trying to steal, destroy, and kill….our faith, hopes, dreams, relationships, worth, and health.   I really need a war room to prepare for those battles.  I’m going to build one.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.”

~ 2 Corinthians 10: 3-6
